BellagioSTAMP: SusTainability Assessment and Measurement Principles

BellagioSTAMP is a new set of guiding principles used to measure and assess progress towards sustainability. They respond to  idespread calls for greater harmony with the natural environment and for measures to secure the well-being of current and future generations.

A set of Bellagio Principles for assessing progress toward sustainability was first published in 1996 and has been subsequently used by local and international organizations in sustainability assessments. Advances in sustainability assessment approaches since 1996, along with renewed global attention to the importance of evidence-based decision-making necessitated an update to the principles.

As a result, a newly-revised set of principles provides a fundamental basis for sustainability assessment. As with the original, BellagioSTAMP has been established by a group of international experts meeting in Bellagio, Italy, organized by IISD and the OECD's Measuring the Progress of Societies initiative.
BellagioSTAMP was presented and launched at the 3rd OECD World Forum, Charting Progress, Building Visions, Improving Life in Busan, Republic of Korea on 28 November 2009.
