You've probably never heard of Agenda 21. Until recently, it was known only to stalwart defenders of Liberty and Freedom like the John Birch Society.

This 20-year-old "United Nations plot" is a plan to promote sustainable development, but the Republican Party wants you to believe that it is the biggest threat to your freedom.

But what is happening with Agenda 21? If you truly want to break down the waterdowned environmental bloom and high-quality education and freedom, here's what you need to know:

Some republicans and tea patiers want to make you think that Agenda 21 is a campaign of "extreme environmentalism", social engineering, global political control in spite of the facts that it is a pledge to promote growth, eradicate poverty and hunger, and create a stable, environmentally-friendly communities.

The U.S. seemed to forgot that Agenda 21 even existed. In 1997 Widener University law professor John Dernbach found that "There was almost no evidence that anyone in the U.S. was paying attention to Agenda 21." Corporate fear mongering, that's why.

The RNC's anti-Agenda 21 resolution will be considered for inculsion in the RNC's official platform at its national convention in August.

A little background on Agenda 21 - what is it?
In June 1992, people of the world met at the first Earth Summit – the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) with 178 governments endorsed a visionary document entitled Agenda 21, to be implemented over the 21st century, as well as two transformative global Conventions on Climate Change and Biodiversity. Implementation of Agenda 21 has proceeded at different rates in different countries. The oft forgotten visionary agenda for the 21st century comes of age in 2013.

Signed by President Bush, 8,000 reporters attended when more than 100 nationed endorsed this 400-page-long non-binding document.

The System of Environmental Economic Accounts (SEEA) as agreed in Agenda 21 can contribute to measuring progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) once they are established. Commitment to SEEA was already demonstrated by 57 governments at the UK High Level dialogue on Natural Capital accounting. That is 30% of the United Nations! The USA and Brazil also committed to this.
